I play Valorant and was in a game where there was a cheater. But I didn't get my RR refund back and was curious as to if that was still a thing. After all, video games like Valorant seem to constantly be changing the rules. I messaged them twice and received two very different responses.
Me, yesterday morning:
No RR back for cheaters?
CryinJazz taking over here~
When one of the cheaters is banned, you will receive a notification stating that you will get RR refund if you are eligible.
The notification your seeing doesn't always mean that it is referring to a hacker from a competitive game. It also be from a unrated match as well. But not to worry, I will explain further how the RR rollback work:
- You will get a pop-up notification showing the exact amount of RR being refunded.
- To apply the refunded RR, you must complete one Competitive match.
- Once you finish that match, the refunded RR will be reflected in your End of Game summary screen—win or lose, the refund still gets added to your total RR for that game.
- Important: Ranked Rollbacks are only valid within the current Act, and there is a cap per Act. If you qualify for a refund, be sure to play a game before the Act ends to claim it!
If you did not received any message about RR refund, it was likely from a non-ranked match or you are not eligible for more RR refunds.
For more details, you can refer to our public article.
Hope this clarifies.

Thank you, but the article doesn't explain why I wasn't eligible. It was from a ranked game, I double checked before enquiring. And I did play another game and did not get any refund. When I asked my friends about this, my boyfriend said he hasn't been getting any refund back for the last few weeks. And two people who queue together--one will get a refund while the other doesn't. Why would one person be eligible for a refund on the same game but their teammate isn't? Why would neither my boyfriend or I get RR refunds? Are there actual guidelines that players can view that explains further on RR refund eligibility?
Thanks!
My intention behind this was to get to the bottom of it. However... the response was not at all as hoped.
I understand you lost your RR while playing against a cheater and you want your RR back.
The rollback is active since the patch 10.5. If you have faced a cheater and Vanguard detected you might lose RR. However, to get the RR back you first must get the message informing you that you can get the RR back (the notification that a player was banned is different than this one). This message may take some time to arrive. There are player that get it just finish the game but other take up to one month. You also have to take into account the RR refund is completely managed by the system and we can't do anything to modify it. The only thing we can do is wait until you got the message. Once you got the message the only thing you have to do is play a competitive game. At the end of the game you'll get back your RR, no matter if you lose or win.
Perhaps at this time you can see your request as resolved, therefore it will not be necessary to reply to this message, but if you have any other request or question, do not hesitate to contact us. Remember that our doors remain open for you if you need us and we will do everything in our power to support you, whether in this ticket or in any that you send in the future.
🐉I wish you the best of luck in your games!🐉

Interestingly enough, I NEVER got that message, but I did get half my RR back during the game I was playing while this message arrived. And on top of that, it still doesn't explain what is going on. After all, if that actually were the case... why wouldn't the two people mentioned in my earlier message have received theirs? I suspect they're only saying that to pacify me, but that in reality, their "system" is messed up. I received two completely different responses. Also, why would it take longer to get the RR refund? How is this game coded in such a complicated way that players due a refund may or may not receive any of it back when they were told they would?
I've been grinding comp just to play the new map, which I finally got to today. Now that I got my fix in, I'll probably stay off it awhile except for when Cam wants to play. I feel like at this point, Valorant should be on top of its game, but to not be able to keep the "system" in order just seems to me like a lacking detail. If they're going to encourage reporting cheaters by refunding RR, the entire team should instantly get their RR back. Otherwise, they shouldn't promise it. They can't guarantee it.
