Imaginary Life Day 2

It's early and I've just put the last demo cupcake in the display shelf. This week and next, Cam wakes up with me, as it's our opening, but once things calm down, I'll open and he'll sleep in and come in later. He wanted to wake up with me every morning, but I am the morning person and he the night owl. I pointed out that he has the most energy during the day when I'm ready to fall asleep, whereas I have the most energy in the morning, when he's dead asleep! So it works out perfectly. Of course, the part I didn't mention was that means most of my job would happen before the people came. He figured that out on his own, though, and I just giggled. He knows me so well! As for the Puddles cupcake, my bestie made a good point that we could actually color some of the cake to make it look like spots within the cake, just like Puddles. So we've taken out the orange filling and we're using orange cream icing, instead. With some orange-colored white choco...

Imaginary Life Day 1

Things kinda suck right now. Not like everything is terrible, just more like my patience is constantly being tested and not much is going right. So I've decided I'm going to make up an imaginary life for this blog. Cam and I are getting ready to open up our shop. We had some disagreements on how to decorate it. He wanted something that felt like a coffee shop, cozy that supported local artists, with a natural yet dark color theme. I wanted a vintage vibe, 1920s inspiration, leather chairs, industrial shelving, dark decor. Elegant and sophisticated. But it isn't a coffee shop, or a bar, as mine would have been appropriate for. We are opening up a cupcake shop! Plant-based because we are both lactose intolerant and I never want to make something I can't try. It is also where customers can drop of vintage sewing machines to have serviced. This is a hobby of mine, so it just made sense to have both businesses run out of the same shop. For this reason, we combined the concep...

Volunteering at the Museum

As I said before, yesterday was my second day being, essentially, a volunteer archivist. That's the fun part about these small museums, is you can do things like that without experience. I'm not sure why, but yesterday really wore me out. I'm going through boxes of someone's research, research he'd done in the mid to late 1900s to write a book, and I'm taking out primary sources as well as some copies and other secondary. I'm marking these in non acidic folders. Unfortunately, idk how I'm supposed to label them. I'm doing it like so: JDarst (to reference the writer who donated it postmortem) - abbr type (like TL for typed letter, LS for signed letter, D for documents, adding cc for Caron copy, etc). - Date - Occasional other relevant info. The hard part is I'm stacking some of these things up because I'm not sure if they're related, so I don't want to risk separating them. Like letters to newspaper clippings, etc... If the woman over...

My Paintings

Ahem, I did NOT make the event. But I did paint some stuff! I'm thinking about just leaving them all over town, maybe all over when I go anywhere. Do like how they used to with the old message in a bottle, where there was link for you to say where you found it.. but in this case, just that it was found, and any comment the finder would like to say--hopefully nothing bad. I'd hope if they had bad things to say, they'd just toss it, but these days, meh. The space one has a tiny space ship in it, which I kind of like. I think I want to do a theme with that... and the cherry blossom was one where I just followed a tutorial, but people seem to really like it. Maybe I'll just do a few of those to leave around all over. Yesterday was my second day volunteering at the museum to do archivist stuff. So, I'll have to write about that later, when I have a moment longer!
